I love it when this happens. I’ve said it before (many, many times) music was incredible in 2007. As I was reminiscing, Kubichek! came on and I feel back in love. The Sunderland rockers produced a magnificent debut Not Enough Night which came out to critical acclaim. Unfortunately, not commercial, reaching only 137# in the album charts and the band split as the year drew to the close.
What an absolute joke! This album is awesome, just perfect British rock. Listening to it makes me feel like a ninja, that’s how cool it is. It’s packed full of angst against everything and that fuels just one of those records where you want to raise your fists in defiance to anything and everything. I realise that makes little sense, but listen to Nightjoy and the chorus. It’s outstanding.
Pick of the album though is Hometown Strategies. It’s irritation directed towards a girl, something which is by no means unique, but the song sucks you in so beautifully. By the end, I’m left thinking that this girl is such a bitch and that Kubichek are ridiculously insightful as well as fantastic.
Oh and the album artwork is a raven looking awesome. Not Enough Night screams ninja in so many ways…
