Hi guys! Welcome to Tuesday- I hope your week’s are going excellently. I had a surprisingly refreshing weekend full of great music. No, really. I went to a dinner party where they played a GaGa cover (Michael thought it Glee, but he was wrong. Again), MGMT and then blasted out The Kinks! There’s just not a radio station with that extent of nuance. Anyway, on a sadder note: I don’t think we fully paid tribute to Whitney Houston owing to a variety of reasons but safe to say, we all appreciate just how influential she was. I was at a party the other day (these excursions are rare for me, despite what this paragraph may suggest otherwise) and they had a Whitney special! Did I find it a bit sad that I was the only one who knew all the words to It’s Not Alright But It’s Okay and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)? Nope, not at all. Shame’s pretty low on my list, apparently. Actually, I maintain that It’s Not Alright is one of Whitney’s best songs so I’m quite proud of my ability to dance to that on an empty dance-floor. Enough of this jibber-jabbering, follow the jump for the best cover you’re going to hear all week:
Robin Thicke, one of my favourite favourite favourite singers of all time, covered one of Whitney’s best best best tracks, Exhale (Shoop Shoop) on Ellen earlier this week. It’s expectedly increds so watch in awe. Bonus marks for the little cough in the middle. Spoiler alert: He braves through.
On a related note, do you remember in Stepmom when Julia Roberts teaches Jena Malone to paint with watercolours? And her technique is ‘shoop-shooping’- that’s something I’ve used countless times in my Art lessons.
