Digital Lion – James Blake + Brian Eno

There’s been a flurry of activity surrounding post-dubstep poster boy and beat-making officionado James Blake recently. The release of his second LP ‘Overgrown’ is on its way and he’s been steadily releasing tasters to the anticipating public, including the excellent ‘Retrograde’ and now a collaboration with electronic soundscaper Brian Eno.

Let me start off by saying that I have no idea what Brian Eno does on this track, but whatever it is, it sounds very, very good. ‘Digital Lion’ fuses Blake’s neo-soul verses with a swampy bassline reminiscent of the work of Coki and Mala in DMZ, whilst referencing Burial in its spacey arrangement. Although his debut album was a success, I thought the futuristic depression-blues of EP ‘Enough Thunder’ went a little too far, so I’m hopeful of Blake’s return to his R&S dance days with this release and the forthcoming album.

Sorry there’s no YouTube link, but stay tuned for the full album review…
