And the 4 reasons why Hideout 2013 exceeded my expectations

Hideout 2013

As I return to normality and being able to speak at a reasonable level, Hideout 2013 has ended. Did it live up to my high hopes outlined in my previous article – http://canyouhearthis.co.uk/2013/06/27/4-things-getting-me-buzzing-for-hideout-2013/ – or did it even exceed them? Find out below (spoilers alert, it totally exceeded them)

1) Each venue was out of this world.

Just one of 4 incredible stages for this year

Just one of 4 incredible stages for this year

The 4 clubs hosting sets this year, Kalypso, Aquarius 1 and Aquarius 2, and Papaya, were all incredible. Each club had the perfect venue, getting us all close enough to the stage but also allowing enough room for people to chill and vibe in their own space, without feeling incredibly claustrophobic. Sound quality was obviously the most important factor which was possibly best sound rigs at any gig I’ve been to, but the lights and the general set as a whole was insane. Also, pools should be installed at all clubs, just saying. That nicely leads me into point two…

2) Pool parties / day drinking is top notch

Pretty hard to see the banging party going on past the muscular adonis there

Aside from the fact that you have to look at my awkward frame in that photo, check out the backdrop. Pool parties are the way forward. Everyone crams in for a DJ to come in and drop their set, as everyone gets boozy and splashes around in the pool. It’s nice appreciating the sets in the day as well as night, and some of the music perfectly fits the sunshine and leaves everyone in a good mood. Hangover setting in at 7pm slightly worsens the mood.

3) SBTRKT above all absolutely killed it

I will own that mask some day...

I will own that mask some day…

As much as it should be hard to single out an artist for being the best, and genuinely each set was out of this world, SBTRKT was just the best for me. Songs like Hold On and Wildfire are obviously going to get the crowd amped, but when you decide to throw in a Swimming Pools mix and totally change the vibe you are going to win my vote Mr SBTRKT. The set was perfect from start to finish, with every single person in that crowd going hard for him.

4) I managed to get even closer with my friends (nerdy award goes to me)

Nice smile Lucca... But we have managed not to kill each other so all is well.
