#tbt Modern Tongues – Ghost Beach (EP Review)

Cool artwork, cool band.

By now, I sound stuck-on-repeat about Ghost Beach. But I remain staunchly unapologetic because this band is so damn good. They’ve released their debut EP, Modern Tongues this week which is as good a time as any to dive into their music. We’ve reviewed Been There Before, Miracle and Tear Us Apart extensively on the site before (here, here and here) so let’s see how the other two tracks match up. Hint: Well.

Faded finds Ghost Beach contemplative. And while that’s not too different from how we always find this band, Faded stays pretty true to its eponymous sentiment. It’s stripped-back and barer than we’ve seen Ghost beach. We haven’t quite Been (t)Here Before. On a side note, Ghost Beach are perfect college music. Seriously. They play through ecstasy, melancholy and love in less than three minutes flat. And that’s just a typical morning for a college student.

When did pop music get so ageist? I think it was somewhere around the fun. mark (obviously not, it’s been hanging around forever) but Ghost Beach launch a track where – start creasing out those wrinkles – you can be too young. Only joking, it’s still pretty glamorous to be young here. If this track doesn’t make you want to smoke, make out with people and black out then go listen to a MGMT track and get a heart.

Sometimes, I write about music. Pretty cool. You can follow me on Twitter @henellenthorpe, find on Instagram @hennnners or even go old school and e-mail me at henry@canyouhearthis.co.uk
