I have to confess… I didn’t actually fully watch the BRIT Awards this year. I was too busy watching football. However, at half time I did flick channels just to see how everyone was getting on and was pleasantly surprised by a juxtaposition of the two worlds; Cesc Fabregas presenting an award (for absolutely no apparent reason). One of the night’s big winners was Ed Sheeran and he capped it all off with what I thought was the night’s best performance.
Last week was pretty dramatic for me, and pop music.
And the WORLD. So let’s take a more peaceful gander through the world of pop music this week. No apocalyptic visions, just ear-friendly beats. It was a Rihanna-centric week which is good news for anyone who’s a fan of the Good Girl Gone Debauched, bad for anyone who still has Umber-ella-ella-ella ringing through their brain. This is also a video-heavy post, because a) there seemed to be rather a lot this week and b) I’m tired. Let’s pop!
It seems a while since we’ve given you some proper singer/songwriter music. But then again it seems like it was a while since Lady Gaga decided that wearing an oxygen mask inside a glass womb was worth the colossal effort. Anyway, here’s a properly nice tune for ya. The A Team by Ed Sheeran is so good because it’s not your usual my-girlfriend-left-me-and-now-I’m-sad subject matter, but instead you get a dark and intense story about a prostitute. Fantastic, right? But don’t let that fool you. The melody is still beautiful and if you really like it, I’d check out the man’s website because he’s written plenty of other great stuff.
